Your Perfect Wedding And Why Hire A Professional Photographer To Capture It For You

By Peter Estenoz

So many times while photographing a beach wedding here in Key West, and noticing onlookers enjoying the moment as well, I see a little girl who is smiling at the bride, and I think she must be imagining what it must be like to be as beautiful as a princess! So her thoughts give birth to her dream of a perfect wedding.

You can't help but see it in all the fairytale movies: after the boy meets the girl, and they overcomes all the known obstacles, hurdles, and pressures that have you hanging tense on the edge of your seat they finally kiss, that first kiss, what you've waited been waiting for. The next scene in the movie is the perfect wedding, perfect in every way, with everything planned to a T. With beautiful instrumental music playing in the background, the groom waiting patiently as the bride approaches with the processional, you see the scene as it is shot from every possible angle. First, to the groom, then, to the bride, then, behind the bride as she finishes her accent to her groom, and standing before the officiator who ask their intentions, the groom looking lovingly and nervous at his beautiful bride, the bride gazing shyly at her handsome groom, joining hands and hearts, exchanging vows and rings, and then the wedding kiss to seal the vows and create the marital union.

The location for the wedding selected, the officiator selected, the dress, the flowers, the wedding invitations acknowledged. The date finally arrives, and behold, you see the occasion from all different angles. The wedding music starts letting everyone know the ceremony is about to begin. The groom stands nervously with the Officiant or Justice of the Peace, and the bride begins her procession, you see how the look on his face is captured as he sees her beauty, and he smiles. You then see her face as she shyly looks into his eyes. They join hands and hearts as the Officiant ask their intentions. With the "I do's" and rings exchanged and then the wedding kiss, the celebration continues. But wait, what just happened? How do you recall such an emotional moment? Your hearts are bursting with so many feelings, how have you decided to have this perfect wedding captured? This is question to ask yourselves before you wed, realizing this is a once in a lifetime event, who will have this responsibility? Assign it to a family member or friend, with little or no experience in wedding photography? Will you see the beauty that surrounds you in this moment and how beautiful you are in your surroundings? This is where the importance of research and planning begins.

Speaking from experience of photographing hundreds of weddings for most of my life here in Key West, Florida, only a professional can deliver to you what your heart looks for in both your photography and video of your wedding. The ideals and trends for wedding photography have changed throughout the years, from medium format, to 35mm film, now to digital, the importance of photography is there, everyone knows it: to capture the essence of that time with loved ones and friends, the methods used to do so are constantly advancing. Enlisting the advice and experience of a professional photographer/videographer is priceless. How do you find such a professional? How do you know they are professional? What sort of references do they provide? How many years have they been shooting weddings, and is that where there true experience of photography lies? Are they the professional photographer that will be shooting your wedding? Or will it be hired out to a lesser experienced photographer? Will they give examples of complete wedding photo albums, or just a select few good ones? With an outdoor wedding, will the photographer you are considering using know how to make adjustments with the camera to capture the overall beauty of the area and of the two of you?

So you ask, how does one find such a professional? How do you know they are professional? Do they have references from other bridal couples, reviews? How many years have they been shooting weddings? Is wedding photography all they do, or is it just something they do in their spare time, a hobby? Will they be your photographer or if a higher paying job comes along will they hand your wedding photography over to someone not as experienced as they are? What about examples of their work? Are you viewing complete weddings, or just a few sampling of several weddings? What of the experience of knowing the ceremony location? Is it an outdoor venue also known as an uncontrolled environment, with the constant lighting changes that would require adapting the camera functions to accommodate those changes? Most important will the finished product presented to you be the one that causes your heart to smile, and fill with the same emotion you felt on your wedding day? Yes these are many questions we know, but every one of them is important for you and the groom to consider. After all, remember who's wedding it is, who's dream, who's vision, ah yes, it is your perfect wedding you've planned for, yes, your "happily ever after" your striving for as you begin it as a beautiful princess and a handsome prince!
